I wrote about the various incarnations of the TWIN TREES design before (SEE HERE), and one of the most popular is the one below. I first cut it in 2013 for a custom commission, and I've been receiving requests for it ever since. Always fast on the uptake, 4 years later here it is - The TWIN CHERRY TREES is now available in the shop!

Unlike the original, this listed version is 18X18 inches to better accommodate all texts. What's wonderful about this design is not only is it multi-layered (2 papercut layers!) but you can also choose to have the papercut layers in color (at no extra cost). For example, the four color combinations seen below.

I've been reluctant for a long time to release this particular design in the shop because it's one of my more delicate designs, having the least amount of anchors from center mass to the border. Any experienced papercutter will tell you that sometimes paper has a mind of its own and it will choose the worst times to misbehave - often when I'm running late and the courier is on his way to pickup orders. After cutting this design so many times though I know how to strategically adhere the papercut layers together along the branches to prevent them from shifting and lifting when the ketubah is handled - Don't want any mishaps at the Signing Ceremony! - while still keeping the play of layers and shadows for when the ketubah is framed.

Over the past weekend I quietly made my lastest shop update. I still have designs in my drawers I haven't cut yet that I'd like to list, but thankfully this update expanded the selection in THE SHOP now to 35 designs in all!

In February of last year Sam & Jen asked me to create a custom ketubah for them featuring flowers native to Maine. The brief was to create a "decorative" pattern, one that is "intricate but thematically simple". Challenge Accepted!
This ketubah went through two revisions, and the process was beautiful. We started with a very "full" design that was made out of waves and lupine flowers. Was that what Sam & Jen meant by "simple"?

I'll save you the suspense, the answer was no. They wanted to pare it way back, have a far less "full" pattern. So I removed everything but the lupines. The lupine flower has such a beautiful architectural shape to it, something that's simple yet complex at the same time as only Mother Nature knows to do - it was no trouble at all to redraw.

After seeing this version, they asked for a second revision (the custom design fee includes 1 revision round) to add back more flowers and make the design less symmetrical. This is what we came up with, and may I say; this makes my heart beat faster. It just looks better! Client feedback always makes it better:

Waiting for months (well over a year in some cases) to edit photos has some advantages. For one, I find designs I did 3-1 years ago, meant to list in the shop, and forgot all about! The pickings were starting to feel a little slim... So now I give you two old favorites that I was commissioned to make a good amount of 3 and 2 years ago, a bit freshened up and raring to go!

After sharing the custom ketubah WONDERS OF THE WOOD & SEA earlier this year, I decided to make a version of it available in the shop for all! This version has all the charm of the original, with fewer critters.

Chock full of shells and sea monsters of old, you can really get lost in the papercut. It's one of those designs that just keeps on giving, from the first 'oh, Wow!' gasp to the search for all the creatures nestled in the flowers and waves. I like to think this ketubah would be perfect for a sea-loving land-bound couple.

Molly and her fiancé (who has one of the coolest names I ever heard) Win Wallace, chose it for their wedding back in October. They opted for a moody shimmer copper & midnight blue pairing, which you'll agree suits this design just fine!

We went through several color ways, and they ended up with the classic ivory & gold. All the better for this classic couple! When I received the photos back, I could not believe how well the ketubah suited them! Dana-Maxx looks like classic glamour personified - anyone else think of Dita von Teese? - and their photographer took the best pictures I've seen of my ketubot yet (thank you, Max)!
