Peonies In Bloom

March 16, 2011

I've recently become fascinated with beautiful flower arrangements, as a quick browse through my blog will show. One of the beautiful flowers I am now familiar with is peony. They're round and fluffy and come in beautiful colors, and I've seen them in countless photoshoots and styled weddings. I'm enamored.

The peony is one of the more detail-oriented and difficult designs to cut. I first attempted to make a papercut featuring peonies for my collaboration with Jennifer Raichman on papercut ketubahs. After literally two days of trying different cuts - how detailed will the negative space be, should the outline be cut away or the other way around... - I came up with a highly detailed shadow effect design that emphasizes the layers of the flower's petals.

The Peonies In Bloom couture papercut invitation suite is the perfect choice for a flower themed wedding. Just imagine, the bride and her entourage holding peony bouquets, the hall and isle swathed in blooming peonies... The suite also corresponds with my peonies papercut ketubahs, which were also the most labor intensive of my designs when they were handcut (they are now lasercut). But well worth it, the designs are lush and brimming with promises of romance. That's how I see them, anyway.
