Ariel and Michael are nature enthusiasts who spent years hiking the Hudson Valley, Catskill Mountains, and Adirondacks of Upstate New York. They commissioned me to create a special ketubah that celebrates the untamed beauty of those places.


Ariel knew she wanted a color scheme of ivory and silver. I wanted to add a lot of color to the ketubah so I proceeded with a skill I recently started honing, that of carefully puzzling together colorful layers for each petal and leaf. It's painstaking crafting on a different level and this design took hours to complete but the result is so worth it. We ended up going with a silver background which made it incredibly hard to photograph, but the finished ketubah is a masterpiece of vibrant colors!

When we received our ketubah we just sat and stared at it. Absolutely thrilled doesn’t even begin to cover it!

We love the design and feel like it embodies our story!

As winter is settling in and the year is drawing to a close, I'm looking back on commissions from this year that speak of warmer weather. None do so quite like this one, which just about shouts 'summer' to me.

Amelia commissioned me to create a papercut ketubah for her and Harrison that reflects their theme of a tropical beach wedding. They specifically wanted lots of flowers, and as they were getting married in Key West, Florida, I piled on the flora! Garden Roses, Anthurium, Ranunculus, Vanda Orchids, Peonies, Sophronitis, Hibiscus, Morning Glory, and Monstera Leaves, all play a part in their wedding decoration from the invitation set to the bride's bouquet, so I had a lot to draw from. The color palette was soft blush and light gold, like sunset.

To be honest, I didn't think I'd post about this commission. The clients were lovely and the design process went smoothly so I have plenty of photos but little to write about. I have no anecdotes to share other than that both the bride and I were tickled about the idea of including flamingos. There are three of them nestled in the design, if you can spot them: one for the bride, one for the groom, and one for good luck:)

Rachel was referred to me by her friends who ordered a ketubah some three years earlier. She wanted a floral design to match her elegant chuppah - a beautiful living structure of delicate blooms and branches. I included her favourite flowers like roses, gerber daisies, and hydrangeas, as well as a monogram of the couple's names. The result - a delicate wreath of blooms enveloping the traditional ketubah text.

I realize I hadn't updated the blog for months, so I went through my unedited photos folder and found so many designs I forgot to post! This is one of them, and I can't for the life of me remember why I shelved the photos - Guys, it has the TARDIS!

Elizabeth & Leah reached out to me more than 2 years ago to create a ketubah that will reflect them in all their elegant, playful, fannish glory. When they pitched the idea, the first element they mentioned was that the Tardis had to be hidden in the design somewhere. They also wanted a take on the Twin Trees design with Dogwood tree and Norwegian Pine tree on either side to symbolize them, to join over the text in an arch with a selection of their wedding flowers at their roots - oh and their pets! They sent thorough reference photos and I started drawing!

Over the past weekend I quietly made my lastest shop update. I still have designs in my drawers I haven't cut yet that I'd like to list, but thankfully this update expanded the selection in THE SHOP now to 35 designs in all!

In February of last year Sam & Jen asked me to create a custom ketubah for them featuring flowers native to Maine. The brief was to create a "decorative" pattern, one that is "intricate but thematically simple". Challenge Accepted!
This ketubah went through two revisions, and the process was beautiful. We started with a very "full" design that was made out of waves and lupine flowers. Was that what Sam & Jen meant by "simple"?

I'll save you the suspense, the answer was no. They wanted to pare it way back, have a far less "full" pattern. So I removed everything but the lupines. The lupine flower has such a beautiful architectural shape to it, something that's simple yet complex at the same time as only Mother Nature knows to do - it was no trouble at all to redraw.

After seeing this version, they asked for a second revision (the custom design fee includes 1 revision round) to add back more flowers and make the design less symmetrical. This is what we came up with, and may I say; this makes my heart beat faster. It just looks better! Client feedback always makes it better:
