National Stationery Show NY 2012

May 24, 2012

Sometimes I'm a lot late with my announcements, and sometimes I really drop the ball. Last year I half-heartedly wrote a goal list. A bit tongue-in-cheek, it was part attainable, part fantasy, I thought. Things like Finally send out portfolios; Make a new design every month; Go to Italy; and even Participate in the National Stationery Show in New York.

Well, what do you know, it actually happened! Everyday and Holiday papercut cards designed by Naomi Shiek of Woodland Papercuts for Candyspotting, debuted in the National Stationery Show this past week! They were exhibited in Crow & Canary's booth, who are a well-known agency representing stationery & gifts designers.

I am a bit at a loss as to how it happened, I feel like it fell into my lap, though surely it couldn't have been that easy. Could it? I may not have been there in person (next year?!) but in a much better way - my cards were! Sarah had taken my favorite card designs from my dusty archive folders, added smart and beautiful details that uplifted and truly brought them to life. Don't they look phenomenal? I want to send these to everybody!

Behind the scenes truth: I can admit I had no idea what I was agreeing to when Sarah first contacted me about adapting my original illustrations into lasercut cards. I was just happy to work with her! Does that make me a space cadet? Well, I am flighty. Sarah put in a lot more work into the cards than I originally thought she would, I kept telling her all changes are welcome but I'd be happy to do it for her and save her the trouble, I felt so guilty! I finally understood why she did though when she told me where they were headed! I accidentally stepped into the big leagues. Or, my cards did. There's a sort of comfort in having Sarah have the credit as well as the responsibility in this. To me, it's monumental, I don't know if it actually is, but I'm so excited Sarah has enough faith in my illustrations that she included them in her catalogue!

All the cards are available through Candyspotting.
Candyspotting is represented by Crow & Canary, contact details on their site.
Wholesale and private orders are welcome.

  1. Noooooo I had no idea! I would have loved to have seen these in person and I guess I totally missed Crow and Canary's booth. *kicking self*

    1. Oh man, I'm sorry, I have SUCH bad timing:( At least you were there to see all the pretty in person. There's been so much eye candy there this year! I hope you had fun and came back inspired and with lots of goodies (do they sell there to individuals? See, I don't even know the trade show rules).
